„The Modern Life of The Soul“
"In the forests of Eastern Poland, a sacred
cult has formed that has withdrawn from the outside world
and worships Mother Nature. Living in houses made of growing
plants, its members have turned their backs on the modern
world. These eco-extremists believe that the origins of
humankind lie in plant life, and seek to reverse evolution
by living like plants. Far from the hectic life of modern
society, they celebrate the
existence of the forest in a spiritual way, with special
altars and mystical ceremonies." The book is executed as an open, fold only (no other binding) newspaper-layout.
The photographs are based in nature, imply mysticism and
reference the surreal, so the large
format offers space,
and the double-spreads allow the viewer to immerse him-
or herself within the images. The recycled-paper and the
open format transfer the project's eco-conscious, 'back
to nature'/ basics, harmonious atmosphere. 2008 in Fons
Welters gallery, Amsterdam. Winner of the PUP award 2008.
